HOME GUARD MINIATURE RIFLE SCORES. ("Times-Age” Special.) The following were the scores in a shoot held on Friday night: —Miss G. Gray 99. Miss L. Gray 99, Mrs Tilson 99, R. Tilson 99, F. Dennes 92, T. Gray 92. F. Skeet 91, N. Hayes 91, I. Trotman 91, R. Gallon 90. The Motor Cycle Platoon held a daylight shoot at the weekend.

PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee held a meeting in the Council Chambers when the Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) presided. Private Owen Greathead wrote expressing thanks for a gift. A letter was read from the Te Arona Borough Council asking for support of a proposal to hold an appeal for funds to assist returned soldiers. A letter vzas also received from the chairman of the National Patriotic Council pointing out that provision had been already made for this out of the Million Pound Appeal. The secretary, Mr S. C. Shedden, reported that the Greytown contributions towards the Million Pound Appeal amounted to £770 17s 4d and the total of all appeals was £1387 10s 6d. The auditor, Mr J. Kiernan, reported that he had audited the accounts and complimented Mr Shedden on the excellent manner in which the accounts had been kept. The chairman, Mr Horton, expressed his appreciation of the work done by Mr Shedden. The question of parcels for soldiers was discussed, and it was agreed that every effort should be made to’send a parcel to Greytown soldiers every two months. These parcels are to be made up locally and Greytown residents are to be invited to assist or make contributions towards the same. It was reported that the members of the Kia Tora Girls’ Club, who had in the past assisted in raising funds for patriotic purposes, had now practically all left the district. The committee decided to record their appreciation of their past assistance. Permission was given for an effort to be made on behalf of the Mayor's Patriotic Fund. Hockey Notes. The game between Wesley and Scouts was a very fast one but not a good exhibition of hockey, except for the play of a few individuals. On the Greytown side, Gallon. Brabender, W. Trotman and Jury were the only players who made a really good showing. The Scouts put up a determined opposition and engaged in some good attacking movements. Both sides put in a lot of hard, hitting to no advantage. Wesley won by two goals to one. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs F. Wells, of Wellington, were the guests pf Miss Feast for the weekend. Miss Betty Feast was a weekend visitor to Greytown. Miss B. Sykes, of Wellington, was home • for the weekend. Dr Palmer and family have arrived in Greytown. Dr Palmer will act for for Dr Oakey during the latter's absence on military duty. Miss B. Shedden was a visitor to Wellington for the weekend. Miss M. Eccles has retui, ed to her home after several days’ treatment in the Greytown Hospital.
