GOLF COMPETITIONS ON SATURDAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) The best cards handed in after Saturday's competition for the men’s medal round were: —M. Knowles,’B6. 19, 67; C. K. Goodin,-78, 8. 71; K. G. Nix, 86. 15, 71; J. Dwane, 86, 15, 71; E. A. Pankhurst, 77. 6, 71; W. Johansen, 82, 9, 73. The following are the best scores handed in by the lady players on Saturday:—Miss Peters, 105, 31, 74; Mrs Candy, 95, 17, 78; Mrs Murray, 97, 19, 78; Mrs Orr, 99, 20, 79; Mrs Colson, 98, 17, 81; Miss Berrill, 98. 16, 82. Patriotic Dance. The Parkvale Hall was crowded on Saturday evening, when a dance was held for the purpose of augmenting the patriotic funds. Mr V. J. Ashton acted as M.C. A spot waltz was won by Miss Williams and Mr Juno. Mr V. J. Ashton’s orchestra provided the music, and much-appreciated extras were played by Mrs R. Williams and Miss L. Hooper. The winners of the cards were:—Ladies, Mrs Jensen; men, Mr Bradbury. RED CROSS SOCIETY FIRST AID PASSES. The following candidates have passed their first aid examination:—Mrs Beth Harrington, Mrs Greta Moroney, Miss Betty Hack, Mrs Maud Hastie, Mrs Doreen Fairbrother, Mrs G. Murray, Miss Helen Hamer, Mrs T. Ovens, Misses Marjorie Waterson, Zena Freer, Yvonne Freer. Dr. W. Morton was the lecturer, and Dr. Wells the examiner. , Personal Items. Mr and Mrs E. T. Bliss, of Parkvale, have received a cable from their son. Private C. Eliss, to the effect that he has much improved in health since his illness. The funeral of the late Mr E. Taylor took place on Saturday. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. W. F. Stent. The pall-bearers were Messrs Robinson, Moroney,,, J. Johnson and Ryan. Deceased died at the Masterton Hospital and not at the Croydon Hospital as stated on Saturday. Mr J. Kiddie, who has been with the Prudential Assurance Co. in Wellington, has been appointed to take charge of the Wairarapa branch. His headquarters will be Masterton. At present he is staying in Carterton.
