FEDERAL BUDGET

ANTICIPATION OF RECORD EXPENDITURE COMPULSORY LOANS LIKELY QUESTION OF UNIFORM TAXATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Treasurer, Mr Fadden, will grobably make his preBudget statement to the House of Representatives before it rises at the end of the week. The Budget this year is expected to provide for a record expenditure of £350,000,000. The “Sydney Morning Herald” says compulsory loans, to be known as post-war credits, will almost certainly be a feature of the Budget. Increases in postal and telephone charges are also thought to be assured. Although the States have rejected the Commonwealth’s proposals for a uniform income tax, the Commonwealth may take action to compel something like uniform taxation.
