SAVAGE CLUB

ENJOYABLE KORERO HELD ON SATURDAY NIGHT. EXCELLENT MUSICAL I PROGRAMME. The best attendance of the season was recorded at the Korero held by the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday night. Savage C. Torr was invested as Chief of the evening ‘by Big Chief Price and Savage A. Steele. The orchestra under Savage C. W. Kerry rendered “Chanson Sans Paroles” and “Sons of the Sea," followed by greatly appreciated vocal numbers from Past Chief A. J. Drew. A sketch, “Good Friend,” by Savages Malmo, Harris and Bilderbeck was well received, as were further vocal numbers by Paleface R. G. Gilbert. New members, G. Whiting, E. Buckeridge, G. Cornick, J. Robertson, J. Watson, G. Davies and C. Ashworth were then initiated by Past Chiefs A. J. Drew, V. S. Wilton, J. A. Kennedy, Deputy W. G. Perry and Savage F. R. Henry. Paleface S. Gilding rendered two excellent vocal numbers. The visitors introduced were H. Conway (Auckland), H. L. Reed (Wellington) and J. Douglas, S. Gilding, O. V. Berry, R. G. Gilbert. A. Way and M. H. Daemer (Masterton). During Buttery Hatch proceedings the toast of "The Visitors,” proposed by Savage F. H. Wright, was replied to by Mr O. V. Berry.

The second half opened with a patriotic drive which produced a record sum for any Korero. Delightful violin solos by J. Gallagher, accompanied by E. F. Wilson on the piano, were followed by -enjoyable saxophone solos by Savage C. Ashworth. Prior to “The Closing Ode” and “The King," the orchestra delighted with “Cabaret Capers" and “Wings Over the Navy."
