SHOW AFFAIRS
MASTERTON ASSOCIATION ROYAL SOCIETY. AMALGAMATION OF COUNCILS URGED. The president. Mr R. E. Gordon Lee. presided over a meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association held last night. There was a fair attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. A motion of condolence with Messrs A. E. Hare, W. A. Todd, A. Adderson. lan Bunny, F. M. Reynolds. T. Aplin, Mrs L. Jackson and Dr. Helen Cowie in their bereavements was passed. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect. The president offered his sympathy/ to all who had suffered losses as a re-« suit of the war. To those who had sonsmissing he expressed the hope that better news would come through.
The Southdown Breeders’ Society' advised that a medal had been donated to the association for the best ram under 22 months in the open and natural condition classes. The Manawatu A. and P. Association wrote stating that it would not hold a show this year as the grounds were being used by the military authorities. Correspondence was received from several associations concerning the amalgamation of the Eastern and Western. show councils, as suggested by' the Masterton and Carterton societies.
“I am glad to hear that we shall have the support of the western associations and Dannevirke, but I regret Hawke’-: Bay' hasn’t pulled. They have always been a stand-offish crowd." commented Mr Lee.
Members agreed that some difficulty would be experienced in having the remit passed by the Royal Society's conference, urging that the councils should be amalgamated. The conference was now being held in Wellington.
The president said that Mr A. G. Tinkham (a member of the committee! was in camp for overseas service and that Mr D. McGregor, andother member of the committee, would enter camp next week. On behalf of those present ho extended best wishes to Mr McGregor and it was decided to send a letter to Mr Tinkham. expressing similar sentiments. On behalf of the committee Mr Lee expressed good wishes to a member, Mr Roy Shaw, on his recent marriage.
“I wish to thank the committee for its co-operation and good attendance at meetings." said Mr Lee. He pointed cut that the meeting was the last prior to the annual meeting. The show had proved most satisfactory and the association's finances were in a good position. He hoped that all members would continue to work together in the future.
Mr W. Kemp, in moving a vote of thanks to the president stated that, he had carried out excellent work during the past tv/o years. He congratulated Mr Lee on his good chairmanship. Mr Roy Shaw endorsed Mr Kemp's remarks and the vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. The annual meeting was fixed for Wednesday August 6. Mr D, McGregor intimated that he would, not seek re-election on the committee. While he was on active service he preferred to stand down.
