POST=PRIMARY SCHOLARS

YOUTHS CALLED UP FOR MILITARY TRAINING. EXAMINATION STUDIES NOT TO BE INTERRUPTED. The position relating to boys of 18 years of age in post-primary schools, called up for Territorial training, is set cut below, according to advice from the National Service Department. Every youth, on the attainment of 18 years of age, must promptly enrol in accordance with the provisions of the National Service Emergency Regulations. No liability for Territorial training attaches until the reservist is actually called up for service by notice published in the “Gazette." At thi same time an individual notice is posted to each person who is so called up. Postponement of service can only be, obtained on an appeal lodged with the local Man Power Committee. Appeal forms are available at local post offices. An appeal must be lodged promptly after the date of the “Gazette" notice calling up a reservist for training. In general, appeals should be lodged within ten days of that date, but in special circumstances the committee may accept appeals lodged within the ensuing month. Appeals by school pupils should be accompanied by a certificate from the Principal of their school, stating the definite grounds of the appeal. A pupil called up for Territorial training who is entering for an examination at the end of the year may apply for a postponement of training on the grounds of hardship in order that he may continue his studies without interruption and may sit for the examination. This rule will apply generally to full-time pupils, but individual appeals must still be submitted. No general rule is laid down for part-time pupils and each case is to be considered on its merits.

The Acting-Principal of Wairarapa College. Mr G. W. Morice. is conferring with the boys at the College brought within the scope of the above regulations.
