GREYTOWN
WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon, was well attended. Mrs Beu welcomed a new member, Mrs Vincent. Several apologies for absence were received, including one from Mrs E. Richards, who is at present an inmate of the Greytown Hospital. It was stated that the recent Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union shop day had been very successful. Mrs Beu gave details of Wairarapa remits for the conference to be held in Wellington in July. Several Carterton ladies were present and gave a very humorous playreading called “The Country Store and Post Office.” Those taking part were Mesdames McLean, Ordish, Rabbits, Harrington, O'Keefe and Hodder. Mrs Beu thanked the performers for having provided such an excellent entertainment. Three competitions were drawn, being won by Mrs Chas. Brown (silver dish), Miss Joyce Rice (d’oyley), Mr R. Page (cushion). Mrs Nicholson won a word building competition, Mrs F. C. Bunny being second. A presentation was made to Mesdames Denny and R. Eager, who are leaving Greytown. They were the recipients of shoulder sprays made by Mrs Bayliss, and small gifts from the Division members. Mrs Denny thanked Mrs Beu and the members for the gift, and said she would always remember her Greytown friends. Mrs Eager also suitably replied. They were accorded musical honours.
A vote of thanks was passed to the hostesses, Mesdames Maddison, Orr, McKenzie and Barr.
HOME NURSING CLASS SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES. Over 50 attended the Home Nursing class last night. Mr M. Whimp acted as instructor for the drill. Sister- Goudie, of the Greytown Hospital staff, gave a lecture on the ethics of nursing, and also instruction in roller bandaging. The following passed in the First Aid examinations held at Greytown last week: —Seniors (medallion): Miss E. Gregor (honours), Miss B. Shedden. Intermediate: Miss M. Collier (honours), Mesdames Everett and Jury. Juniors: Miss Har’dinge, Mrs Huntley (honours), Mesdames Carter, Evans, Kempton. Misses Keltic, Tully and Wood,
LADIES’ GOLF CLUB CHALLENGE CUP DRAW. The draw for the second round of the Challenge Cup to *be played on Saturday is as follows: —Miss Nix v. Mrs Jury; Mrs McPhee v. Mrs Thompson; Mrs Ward v. Patriotic Committee. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee will hold a meeting in the Council Chambers, at 7.30 o’clock on Friday evening. Personal. Mr and Mrs R. Dyson, of Battersea, have left on a holiday visit to Levin. Home Guard. The headquarters company of the 4th battalion of the South Wairarapa Home Guard paraded at the Crown Theatre last night. Lieutenant A. G. Nisbet made comments on the sending of messages and reports. The battalion Intelligence Officer, Mr J. F. Thompson, gave a lecture on map-reading.
