REPLY BY CONTROLLER TO COMPLAINTS. REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES UP TO STANDARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An analysis he had had made of representative samples of petrol had revealed that in every respect it was up to standard, said the Oil Fuel Controller, Mr G. L. Laurenson, yesterday, when referring to complaints about the quality of motor fuel. Mr Laurenson said that the recent cold weather had coincided with complaints about the quality of petrol. The change to winter conditions and the increasing proportion of short runs might have had something to do with .these complaints. They were certainly not due to any deterioration in the quality of the standard petrol marketed throughout the Dominion. Modern high-compression engines, Mr Laurenson said, were designed and tuned for running on high-octane or super fuels. Quite satisfactory per-' formances, however, could be obtained from these engines if they were correctly adjusted for running on standard petrol.
