Good Jumping and solid finishes by Birkolcgy and Foxiana featured the principal jumping events on the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club's winter meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. On the flat the two main races were won by the Masterton. Gladynev, and Gayest Son, a feature of these races being that they were both won in similar style, by the wearing down of the pacemaker. The weather was fine, and though rain threatened late in the afternoon, it held off except for a light shower. The going was soft as the result of a series of hard frosts. There was a large attendance, and the totalisator handled £24.985 10s, as against the Saturday total of £23.107 10s last year, which was the second day, the meeting last year also being held in May. The Saturday total for the Wanganui' meeting on the course at the beginning of the month was £25,407. After the running of the Rangitira Hurdles, M. Coon, the rider of Hot Shot, was admonished for allowing his meupt to drift too far out of the running. Results: — Ngata Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles. 11m: 3 Regicide, 9.7 (W. N.
