SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP CARTERTON V. WESLEY. AN EXCITING GAME. A fast and exciting game was witnessed at Lansdowne on Saturday between Carterton and Wesley. The main feature of the play was the very sound defence of both teams. Carterton were first to attack, and Jackson had a chance to score, but A. Fisher being off-side spoiled the opportunity. The visitors again attacked, and two quick shots in succession were stopped by Maister, the Wesley goalie. Carterton continued the attack, but Maister stopped the attack again. However, A. Fisher followed in, and the goalie had no chance to save. Even play followed, with a little too much hard hitting. Carterton again attacked and Maister once more saved. Wesley then attacked, and Ward made two quick saves. Sayer took the ball down and had a shot for the visitors from a difficult angle, but missed. Carterton were awarded a penalty corner, and the ball, after being hit by several players, eventually gave A. Fisher another goal, the Wesley goalie being out of the net. Play in the second spell was maintained at a faster pace than in the first half. Carterton had a penalty corner, which was well cleared by Wesley. Shortly after Carterton were awarded another penalty corner, but Jackson's hit struck the post and was cleared. Wesley made a good run downfield, led by R. Harrington, but the ball was hit too hard and went over the back line. Wesley attacked again, and Hayes had a shot that just missed. Carterton then attacked. Fisher and Jackson both had shots that were saved by Maister. Wesley came away and Hayes’ shot was stoped by Ward, who slipped, and A. Harrington went inland scored. The game ended shortly after. Messrs Cole and Hayne were the umpires.
OLD BOYS v. GREYTOWN. WIN FOR VISITING TEAM. Old Boys met Greytown, at Greytown, and a good game ended in favour of Old Boys by 3 goals to 2. after leading 3/1 at the interval.
