KIATERE CLUB NOVICE CUP CONTEST. WALK OVER FOR THOMSON. (Contributed.) On Saturday the Kiatere Harrier Club bold the annual contest for the Novice Cup. There was only one starter, R. Thomson, so all he had to do was to complete the course. However, his time was good in the circumstances and this runner is showing improvement with every race. The rest of the seniors held a G.| miles training run over a particularly strenuous course. R. Greeks, having his third run this season, showed that he will be one of the hardest runners to beat. W. Burgess showed improveinent on his previous form. W. MacDonald, L. Frances and W. Teahan also ran well. The juniors had a 3J miles training run and several of the runners showed good form. N. Jacobsen led the field home. G. Hayes, who was having his first run with the club, performed very creditably and should take a lot of heading in handicap races. K. Greaves, N. Dickel, the Pickett brothers and G. Laing (who was having his first run this season) also showed good form,. The junior grade runners are steadily building up into a very strong team. Next week the members and supporters of the Club will journey to Mr Bidwill’s property near Kahutara, at the invitation of Club enthusiasts. There will be a G.j miles open handicap for the seniors, and a 31 miles open handicap for the juniors. Both races promise to be very keenly contested. A bus will leave the Post Office at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday.
