GOLF CLUB COMPETITION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following were the best cards handed in for the stableford competitions clayed on the Taratahi links on Saturday: P. Nicholls 22-8-30, M. Knowles 15-14-29. C. K. Goodin 22-6-28, W. Knowles 10-18-28. R. Harrington 22-6-28. W. Johansen 20-7-27. Owing to the rough weather there were very few cards handed in on Saturday by the lady players. Points for the C.M. trophy were scored by Mrs Moroney. Mrs Forbes, Mrs Colson. Miss Lamb and Mrs Robinson.
CORPORAL W. S. HALL WOUNDED ON ACTIVE SERVICE. Mrs W. S. Hall, of Park Road, Carterton, has received advice that her husband, Corporal Warwick Hall, was wounded in' the campaign in Greece. Corporal Hall, who is the son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Hall, is a popular and highly respected ex-resident of Carterton. He is well known in dairying circles. Corporal Hall received his education at the Carterton school and the Carterton District High School. He entered the dairy industry as an assistant at the Belvedere cheese factory, subsequently joining the staff of the Parkvale factory. Following three years’ study at Massey College he secured the position of first assistant at the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company’s 9-vat cheese factory at Roto-o-rangi which position he held for 5 years. He was then appointed factory manager of the company’s plant at Leamington, where he was employed for 4 years. Corporal Hall volunteered for overseas service, and left New Zealand with the Second Echelon.
Dance a’nd Euchre Party. The Parkvale Hall was filled on Sat-' urday evening when a very successful dance and euchre tourney was held in aid of the Patriotic Funds. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra, much appreciated extras being played by Mrs R. Williams and Mr M. Edwards. Mr V. J. Aston acted as M.C. The euchre tourney, for which a quarter of mutton was the first prize in both the ladies and men's sections, resulted as follows: Ladies, Mrs Humphries 1, Mrs C. K. Goodin 2; men, Mr G. Howard 1. Mr E. Rose. Both players handed back their prizes, which were sold. Supper was served by the ladies of the district. ; Mr A. Ward was appointed secretary in place of Miss Adlam, who is leaving the district. Dance at Belvedere. There was a good attendance at the dance held in the Belvedere school room on Friday evening. Music was supplied by Mrs Rogers, while much appreciated extras were played by Mr C. Bell. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr A. E. Reid. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr D. McKenzie and Miss Knowles. Supper was served by the ladies of the district.
Letter Boxes Damaged. Residents of Pembroke complain that some time on Friday night letter boxes were torn from their front gates and broken, apparently by larrikins. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Bliss, of Park vale, have received a cable message that their son is dangerously ill in Egypt. Salvation Army. Brigadier Hay, of Wellington, conducted the services at the Salvation Army Hall, Carterton, yesterday, the meetings being well attended.
