THREEFOLD LIFELINE

SPIRIT OF FREE PEOPLE. “We are living through our finest hour. There is something in the spirit of a free people, fighting for its liberty and the liberty of the world, which is not dreamt of in Nazi philosophy,” said the Lord Chancellor, Viscount Simon, in a recent address. “But, if this spirit is to achieve victory, three things must be added to it. The first is leadership, the second unity, and the third abundant war weapons to strike down the evil things that threaten to overwhelm us. And what a blessed land is this to have found all three! We have the ideal leader; and there has never been in the whole course of our history, whether in war or in peace, so essentially united a nation. Lastly, we have' the ever-increasing war production of our own country, now reinforced by the immense output of the United States, dedicated, as Abraham Lincoln put it long ago, to the purpose that democratic government shall not perish from the earth. With the spirit of Britain sustained by this threefold lifeline of leadership, unity and resources, we preserve a sober confidence that the forces of evil will be overthrown.”
