FULL WAR EFFORT
GREAT CHANGES COMING IN AUSTRALIA MR MENZIES TO ANNOUNCE NEW PLAN. TOTAL CALL ON NATIONAL ' RESOURCES. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) SYDNEY, June 15. “Great changes in the Australians’ way of living will soon be introduced to marshal the nation for a full war effort,” said the Minister of the Army, i\lr Spender. “Air Menzies will announce in a world broadcast, on Tuesday what steps must be taken. "It will mean changes in our occupations, changes in industry, in fact vast changes in most of the things that have governed our peace time existence. We have to forget everything except oui* service io our country. “We will be compelled to rely more and more upon women. Too frequently men in Australia are engaged in work that women can do, and must do. “Australia needs above all else a definite programme which will swing behind the war every man, every machine, and every ounce of effort we possess. That is now to be made a living fact. “We started this war a long way behind. We have a long way to go before we can boast that parity of strength which will enable us to take the offensive.”
RECRUITING AGE LOWERED BY A YEAR. SYDNEY, June 14. The minimum age for recruits in the A.I.F. is to be reduced from 20 to 19. This is one result of the need for reinforcements for the Middle East. While recruiting for the A.I.F. is lagging, the recruiting figures for the R.A.A.F. have more than trebled in a month. There were 660 R.A.A.F. recruits during the week ended June 7.
