MEETING OF COMMITTEE HELP TO RETURNING SOLDIERS. MEMBERSHIP NOW 630. The first monthly meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Wairarapa R.S.A. was held in Masterton on Thursday night. There were present. Mr H. J. Brass (in the chair) and Messrs F. N. Cunningham, L. T. Wylie, L. Nicholson, F. Shearer, H. G. Alexander. J. D. O’Connor, W. R. McMinn and L. S. Nicol (Masterton); C. A. Chennels and A. T. Murray (Carterton); A. G. Nisbet (Greytown); J. W. Fellingham and J. A. Halpin < Featherston); N. H. Thomas (Martinborough), and the secretary, Mr A. E. Prentice. The chairman extended a welcome to two Masterton members, Messrs Cunningham and Nicholson and to a Greytown delegate, Mr Nisbet. An apology for absence was received from Mr N. C. D. Mason (.Martinborough). A letter was received from the general secretary acknowledging a letter of appreciation of the services of the Dominion executive committee, forwarded by resolution of the annual meeting in May. A copy of the annual report and balance sheet and a statement of accounts of the New Zealand R.S.A. for the year ended March 31 was laid on the table. A letter was received from the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association enclosing a sample information card which had been drafted by the Dominion executive for despatch to individual members of the Second N.Z.E.F. on their return to New Zealand from service abroad. The card conveys a welcome home and contains information that will be of value to returning soldiers. The treasurer submitted a statement of the recent Poppy Day appeal, which showed, that the gross returns from the sale of poppies for the Wairarapa dis-' trict were £424 17s, an increase of £5B 6s 2d on last year. It was decided to order 10,000 poppies for the 1942 appeal. The treasurer submitted a statement of the association’s finances, showing a credit balance of £1,107 and a financial membership on June 11 of 630, which was an increase of 94 over the corresponding period of 1940. Twenty-five new members were elected, including two members of the 2nd N.ZE.F. The following sub-committees were set up: Finance and relief, Messrs Brass, Nicol, McMinn, Shearer and the secretary; cemetery, Messrs Wylie, Nicholson, H. W. Lindsey and the secretary; entertainment and social, Messrs Alexander, Cunningham, McMinn and O'Connor. It was decided to hold future committee meetings on the second Thursday of every month. A lengthy report on the deliberations of the recent New Zealand R.S.A. conference was presented by the association's delegates, Messrs Brass and Prentice.
