CRITICISM OF WOOLPACKS INDUSTRY. QUESTION OP STATE AID. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) FOXTON, This Day. At a meeting of the executive of the N.Z. Flax Textile Workers' Union, exception was taken to a statement by Mr James Begg regarding woolpacks. A reply by the president, Mi- H. Podmore. who is also a member of the Flax Rehabilitation Committee, was endorsed, taking Mr Begg to task for saying that it would be better if the factory were burned down. The manufacture of woolpacks was finding permanent employment for 100 men who previously had been doing only three days' work a weak. It was pointed' out that State assistance was also given to farmers and that the tariff protection of wheat growers resulted in dearer bread to the workers. A reference to the Minister being a fairy godmother, it was added, could also be applied to a period a few years back, when a Minister looked after wheat growers very well, while flax workers suffered a 33 1-3 per cent reduction.
