It is now reported that 800 German soldiers were among 5000 persons killed and injured in the ammunition explosion at Semendria. Yugoslavian irregulars are believed to have “touched off" 90 trucks of ammunition when they discovered that it fitted German guns. The industrial section of the town was completely flattened out. Eyewitnesses say there was a blinding flash and then the town seemed to disintegrate in a rush of air and the site of the dump became a huge hole in the ground. The Germans are censoring the news of the tragedy. The town formerly had 12,000 inhabitants and it contained a rolling-stock factory.
