LATEST NAZI FIGHTERS ATTEMPT TO RAID BRITAIN IN DAYLIGHT. SUCCESSIVE FORMATIONS REPELLED. LONDON. June 9. Germany's latest .Messerschmitt- lighters made a vain effort to bring 1 he air war to the British side of the Channel today, when, in a series of dogfights the British machines came but on top. Formation after .formation of enemy fighters came over the south-east and south-west coasts and tried to penetrate the defences. but British lighters and ant i-aircral't gunfire drove them back.

• One Messerschmitt came down on the Dorset coast. A Spitfire was seen to tackle three enemy planes singlehanded and drive them off. Two appeared to crash. An Air Ministry communique reporting these engagements states that several enemy fighters were hit and damaged, but owing to the poor visibility their destruction is not claimed. One British fighter was lost. RAID ON WESTERN GERMANY. Although enemy air activity, last night over Britain was on a small scale British bombers made a successful attack on industrial targets in Western Germany. DARING ATTACK ON SHIP. A daring attack was made by a Beaufort plane on the French coast today. The plane bombed an enemy ship of about 7,000 tons in a dock and flew so low that it was below the swastika flag flying from the mast of the mole. Smoke was seen pouring from the ship.
