Mr Frankensteen declared that the strike is an attempt by the Communist. Party to sabotage the defence programme. STRIKE BROKEN FACTORY TAKEN OVER BY ARMY UNDER PRESIDENT'S ORDER. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 9. The Secretary for War (Mr Stimson) announced that the strike in the Inglewood plant of the North American Aviation Company had been broken. A message from Washington announced that President Roosevelt had ordered the Army to take over the plant. i TROOPS USED i — i FOLLOWING ON CLASH ' AT GATES. Disorder broken out when the gates were .opened. The / police used tear gas but the pickers quickly reformed and threw back the c bombs at the police. 1: Colonel Bradshaw, commanding an i Army force in the vicinity, advised the s use of troops, because the situation c was beyond the control of the Los c Angeles police.
