Throughout the match patrons were kept on their toes with excitement. Competent Rugby critics stated that the match was the best seen on the Greytown grounds for several seasons. Both teams were fit and well matched. Play was fast and open and provided very entertaining football. Both sets of forwards worked like Trojans and on several occasions the crowd was presented with the spectacle of dribbling rushes from one end of the field to the other, reminiscent of the famous old time forward rushes. Although there was little between the two teams Carterton showed more finish, particularly in back movements, than the Greytown team. For Carterton tries were scored by George Brown and J. A. Brown and F. Fitzgerald converted a try and kicked a field goal. R. Brunton kicked three penalty goals and Humphries scored an unconverted try for Greytown. Sugrue was the most outstanding player.

Grantham handled the game in a capable manner. RED STAR v MASTERTON.
