HARRIER ACTIVITIES
KIATERE CLUB FALLOON ROSE BOWL. AVON BY AV. MACDONALD. On Saturday under ideal conditions the Kiatere Harrier Club held the annual four-mile open handicap for the R. C. Falloon Rose Bowl. The juniors contested a two-mile open handicap which was run at a fast pace throughout. The seniors were sent away by the timekeeper, Mr AV. Ashworth. R. Thomson being off the limit, followed 4rnins. later by AV. Teahan and L. Frances, then 40secs. later came R. Greeks. W. Burgess and AV. MacDonald. followed by A. MacDonald off scratch. At the end of the first lap Thomson held the lead by 220 yards from Frances, who was closely followed by AV. MacDonald, Burgess and Teahan. AV. MacDonald, running very strongly, broke away and soon headed the leaders, and went on to win comfortably from L. Frances. Then came Burgess, A. MacDonald. AV. Teahan and R. Thomson. The final platings were: —W. MacDonald (20secs.), 1; L. Frances (lmin.), 2; AV. Burgess (20secs.), 3. Fastest times: W. MacDonald, 24.45, 1; W. Burgess, 2G.05. 2; L. Frances, 26.07, 3.
The juniors were then sent away, D. Cunningham being off the limit, followed by A. Pickett and I. Summers, then came N. Dickel, S. Pickett, and off scratch, N. Jacobsen. After the first mile, the middle markers came through and N. Dickel, running a perfectly judged race, went to the lead and won by 150 yards from A. Pickett, who also performed well. Then followed S. Pickett, D. Cunningham, N. Jacobsen and I. Summers. The final platings were: —N. Dickel (2.20), 1: A. Pickett (2.40), 2; S. Pickett (1.50), 3. Fastest times: N. Jacobsen, 12.33, 1; N. Dickel, 12.46. 2; S. Pickett, 12.54. 3. Subsequently the Rose Bowl was presented to AV. MacDonald, and a trophy, also presented by Mrs R. C. Falloon, went to L. Frances. N. Dickel, the junior winner, received a trophy. Next week the Anderson rally is to be held at Dannevirke. Arrangements for the trip have not been completed •and it may be possible to send only a senior team, although an effort is being made to send both juniors and seniors. Members are requested to watch Thursday's ‘'Times-Age" when the arrangements made will be announced. MASTERTON CLUB VISIT TO DANNEVIRKE ON SATURDAY. With next Saturday’s race at'Dannevirke in view members of the Masterton Harrier Club took part in a scratch race over the championship course of 3J miles. Four juniors went off the mark together and after 1| miles had been covered Doyle and Greenlees had drawn ahead of D. Cairns (who had made the pace) and D. Wickens. Greenlees and Doyle, who were both running easily and well within themselves, came on to the oval some 100 yards ahead of D. Cairns and went on to finish in that order. In the seniors, J. Hunter and C. Ross went off first followed by J. Haise and R. Bell. Next to go were G. Reader, C. K. Long and R. Gully. J. Haise and R. Bell, both running well together, were first home with the rest following in' close order. Members of the club who intend to make the trip to Dannevirke ’for the annual harrier rally are asked to hand their names in at once to the club secretary.
