Wesley and Old Boys met at Lansdowne on Saturday, a very even and exciting match resulting. Tiic pace was on from the commencement. Wesicy were the first to attack but the Old Boys’ backs cleared and the Wesley backs had to defend. After about 10 minutes play a Wesley forward broke through and A. Harrington had a good chance to score a goal, but R. Harrington being over anxious was penalised for off-side. Both teams had turns at. attacking and both sets of backs defen'ded well. Just about 2 minutes be-: fore the end of the spell Old Boys forwards penetrated the defence and the Wesley goalie stopped the shot on his pads, but Faulknor took the ball on the rebound and scored. Play was in mid-field for the remainder of the spell, half time score being Old Boys 1, Wesley 0. From the bully off Old Boys attacked and Faulknor had a shot but obstructed in doing so. Wesley gained very little advantage from the free hit. and Marchbanks had a shot from the side of the circle, the ball hitting the goal post and going over the line. Fast up and down play followed until Faulknor broke away with a good solo I run, completely beating the Wesley backs and scored, putting his team 2 goals up. This setback Lo Wesley livened them up and their forwards drew the defence out of position for R. Harrington to score from a difficult angle. Old Boys 2, Wesley 1. Wesley opened play up and soon attacked again, Old Boys goalie saving, but an infringe-' ment gave Wesley a penalty corner, from which A. Harrington evened the score. Play was very willing but clean at the closing stages, each team I trying to gain the winning goal. I Eventually Wesley got this advantage, ! H. Hayes scoring the winning goal a; few minutes before time. Old Boys were attacking at the final whistle, the game ending Wesley 3, Old Boys 2. Messi’s Hayne and Moor were the umpires. CARTERTON v.
