WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OPAKI, COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-A.no” Special.) The June meeting of the Opaki Wonien’s Institute was hold at the home of Mrs Beetham, who rn’esided. A list of secretaries of various activities in the Wairarapa Federation was received from Mrs Jarrett, the newly appointed Federation secretary. A reading from “Pioneer Tales’’— Ellen Harpen’s wedding—was given. Much interest was taken in a copy of “Early Wairarapa,’’ the recently published bock of the memories of Mr Charles Bannister. The competitions resulted: — Best bloom: Mrs Malmo. 1; Mrs Beetham, 2: Mrs Wyeth, 3. Child’s dress: Mrs Beetham, 1: Miss lorns, 2; Mrs Wyeth. 3. Bran biscuits: Miss lorns, 1; Mrs Jaine, 2; Mrs Beetham, 3. The roll call. “Stories of my Grandfather,” was well responded to. The July meeting will be held at Mrs Bcetham’s home when the roll call will be “Sing. Say or 3d to Pay.” and the competitions: A jar of marmalade; best bloom; and an 8-inch knitted peggy square (diamond shape). Miss lorns undertook to send parcels to local soldiers. Afternoon tea was served.
