QUIET CONFIDENCE
DECLARED IN MALTA. POSSIBILITY OF INVASION ATTEMPT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) 'LONDON, June 7. “We are facing the possibility of an invasion and we will be more capable of resisting the attack than Crete was,” said Lieutenant-General Dobbie. com-mander-in-chief in Malta, in a broadcast in the island today. “The circumstances justify quiet confidence," he said. "The Government and the fighting services are doing their utmost to ensure that Malta gives a good account of itself, and I am confident that we will succeed in doing so.” It is announced that enemy aircraft attacked Malta on the night of June 5-6, but the damage was negligible and there were no casualties, A Heinkel 111 was attacked by a night-fighter, and the enemy is believed to have crashed into the sea, though there is as yet no confirmation.
