HOSPITAL MATRON

MISS H. D. GRANT APPOINTED. MISS M. M. BROWN SUB-MATRON. Miss Helen D. Grant, sub-matron of Masterton Hospital, has been appointed matron, subject to the approval of the Minister of Health, in succession to Miss M. F. Barnett, who has resigned her position to take up a war appointment. Miss Grant will take up her duties at the end of the month. Miss Grant was trained at the Stratford Hospital and passed her State examination in 1923. She continued her training at St. Helen's Hospital (Auckland) and at' the Karitane Hospital (Dunedin), in 1926. returning io Stratford in 1928, after having qualified as a Plunket nurse. From 1929 to 1934 Miss Grant went abroad, gaining valuable experience in South Africa and England. In England she trained at the Royal Eye Hospital (Manchester), Larkficld Hospital (Greenwich), a training centre in Sussex. .Mausley Hospital (London), a training school for mental disorders, and at the Foundling Hospital Institute. London, Miss Grant later returned to New Zea-; land and in 1936 was appointed to the Masterion Hospital. In September she was appointed sub-matron. Miss M. M. Brown, tutor-sister, has been appointed sub-matron at the Masterton Hospital. Miss Brown passed her midwifery examination in 1929. gained her Plunkci certificate In 1933. j and passed the Post Graduate examin- ' ation in 1938.
