The Governor-General. Sir Cyril Ncwall, and Lady Newell, left Auckland today on their first official visits to Gisborne and Napier. Their Excellencies go into residence in Wellington next Saturday. Mr J. Wylie has been re-elected unopposed president of (he Northern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society. The death occurred at Wellington on Saturday of Mr W. J. Lankshear, formerly a well-known bookseller, at the age of 87 .years. Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., is soon to retire from the Bench after 22 years' service. After his retirement, Mr Watson hopes to visit Australia. Mr J. R. Miller, chief accountant of the Waitemata Electric Power Board, has been appointed secretary-treasurer of the Taranaki Electric Power Board. Ellham. He has been with the Waitemata Board for the past 16 years.
