London this morning had its first daylight alert for 45 days, and the first daylight gunfire for many weeks. There are no reports of bombs having been dropped. A communique says enemy activity today was very slight. A single aircraft dropped bombs at two points -n north-eastern England. No one was seriously injured. CONTINUED DENIAL OF PRESENCE OF GERMANS IN SYRIA. WEYGAND’S REPORTED ASSURANCE. LONDON, June 6. A statement issued by the Vichy Propaganda Ministry on the situation in Syria alleged that the insistence of British broadcasts that German troops were in Syria seemed to be a pretext to justify eventual British action. General Weygand, it was added, had assured the Vichy Government regarding the defences of Syria. Measures were being taken to strengthen and reinforce all the French colonies against aggression.
