0 SCHOOL COMMITTEE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna District High School Committee was held last evening, there being present Messrs H. E. Greathead (chairman), S. Daniel, J. Tolley. R. Gallagher. K. Murray. R. Farrow and H. Rogers. Accounts amounting to £ll 0s Id were passed. The chairman extended the committee’s congratulations to Mr Gallagher on his election to the Borough Council. The visiting committee reported that the footpaths at the primary school were in an unsatisfactory condition. It was decided to forward a letter to Colonel T. W. MacDonald as .a mark of appreciation of his confined interest in the Eketahuna school. Messrs Rogers and Greathead were appointed the visiting committee for the month. The headmaster, Mr A. B. Fordyce, in his monthly report stated that the primary roll at present stood at 161 and the secondary department at 48. During the past month Miss Clarkson had been transferred to Hastwells as sole teacher. Mrs Aston, of Pahiatua, had been appointed commercial subjects instructress. At the High School rock gas had been installed in the science laboratory. Bible in Schools instruction under the Nelson system had been inaugurated, the Rev. 1. K. Hopper taking charge with Mrs Christie as assistant. The children appeared interested and attentive. Donations to thy Otaki Health Camp amounting to £3 0s lOd, were received at the school and this sum was forwarded to the Education I Board. Dental Clinic fees were announced at 2s per child., Nurse Doug-1 las had been transferred to Napier and would bo relieved by Nurse Rogers, of I Hastings. | SOCIAL EVENING DISTRICT PAYS TRIBUTE. I There was a large attendance at the social tendered to Private R. Fauvel in lhe Odd Fellows' Hall last night. Among those present were many visitors from Pahiatua, as well as from the surrounding country districts. Excellent music for dancing was played by members of the local orchestra. Much appreciated extras were provided by Corporal G. Olsen. Mr H. E. Greathead acted as M.C. The Mayor. Mr W. Olsen called upon Private Fauvel to accept a gold wristlet watch from the citizens of the town. Mr Olsen stated that the Fauvel family were held in the highest esteem in the town and all wore confident that the member honoured that night would uphold the good name of New Zealand and of Eketahuna. He wished the recipient God Speed, good luck and a safe return. Musical honours wore heartily accorded the guest of the evening, who acknowledged the gift and kind sentiments which accompanied it. Private Fauvel was presented with a parcel of comforts by Miss M. Ander- :■< n, president, of the Women's Patriotic Committee.
