GREYTOWN

FIRST AID CLASS GROWING NUMBERS ATTENDING. (“Times-Age" Special.) Tile Red Cross First Aid class paraded iii growing numbers last evening. Mi- Whimp, of the Home Guard, acted as instructor for the drill period and Messrs N. Langford and L. Parton supervised the bandaging. Dr. Oakey gave individual comments on the examination test papers.

SCOUTS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Scout executive committee was held on Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs L. R. Huntley, all members being present. The Scout report showed a keenness on the part of the boys to qualify for their proficiency badges. lan Trotman has gained his yellow and green all-round cord and the King Scout Badge, and has only one more badge to gain to receive his red and white all-round cord. These badges have not before been gained by a member of this troop. Two new examiners have been ap-' pointed, Mr T. Tully for the Athlete’s badge and Mr M. J. Greathead for the Handyman's badge. As Scout training involves a large amount of car travelling, a monthly petrol allowance is to be applied for. ft was decided to hold the annual meeting on Friday, July 11, at 8 o'clock in the Scout Hall, to which all parents and friends are cordially invited. Mr and Mrs Huntley were accorded a vote of thanks for their hospitality. Bridge Circle. The Plunket Bridge Circle meeting was well attended on Tuesday afternoon. The winners were:—Contract. Mrs Dewhurst; auction. Miss I. Wiggins. Afternoon tea was supplied by the contract players. Shop Day. The Grey town branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union is holding a shop day on Friday. The proceeds are for the general funds and the useful work this unit does in providing for those in need of assistance warrants a full support to its efforts. Social and Dance. The Citizens’ Patriotic Committee is holding a social and dance in lhe Odd Fellows’ Hall on Friday evening. The guests of honour will be soldiers on leave. The local Red Cross branch requires a hospital bed for the depot and is prepared to buy or rent same.
