FEATHERSTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. ("Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of lhe Featherston branch of the Plunket Society held yesterday afternoon. Mrs Q. Donald (president) welcomed visitors from Masterton and Martinborough. The annual report and balance sheet were considered very satisfactory and the nurse's annual report.was adopted. Mrs Donald gave an outline of the work of the Featherston branch since its inception 25 years ago. Mrs Blundell spoke of the work of the Dominion Council, and congratulated the Featherston branch on its work and its financial position. Mrs Donald thanked Mrs Blundell. Nurse Twentyman gave a talk on her routine work in the district and mentioned the course of instruction and lectures given for Women's War Service Auxiliary and for Plunket aid classes. Lectures had also been given to the Girl Guides. Mrs Bloxarn expressed tuanks to those present and also to the Girl Guides and to Nurse Twentyman for her work. A beautifully iced cake, complete with 25 candles, was given by a grateful mother and was a feature of the afternoon tea, which was served at the conclusion of the meeting. There was a good attendance at the Anzac Hall last evening at the dance tendered to Privates B. Dick, A. O’Neale, C. M. Benge, T. and L. G Fenwick. Miss Card 'was hostess and Mr Chas. Buck M.C. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra. Mr Card, presented each guest with an cnvolepe containing money. Private B. Dick responded on behalf of the recipients. Euchre Tourney. There was a good attendance at the Fire Brigade euchre tourney on Tuesday night. The winners were: Mrs Elliot 1, Mrs Surry and Mrs Lett 2; men. Miss Ruane 1. Mr Cameron 2. The lucky chair winners were Mrs W. Mellish and Mr R. Rasmussen. Personal. Privates L. G. Cooper, B. Lewis and N. Morgan are on leave, having returned recently from Suva. Two letters have been received recently from Leading Aircraftman D. McKenna, who is in training with the R.N.Z.A.F. in Canada. He reports that ho is very fit and that he has passed his final examination for wireless aitgunner, and has secured his "spiders." He has been transferred to a bombing and gunnery school. Mr Gordon Cundy, who has been convalescing with his parents, Mr and Mrs H. Cundy, after his recent illness, has returned to his home in Dannevirke. Miss Agnes Hector, Pihautea, has left to take up a Government position in Wellington. Miss P. Hood and Miss M. Bargh have returned to Wellington after being home for the weekend. Mrs Juno, Pihautea. has returned home from a holiday spent in Tauranga, Te Puke. Opitiki and Cambridge. Fall At School. When doing physical exercises at the school on Monday Barbara Corlet had the misfortune to fall on the concrete and suffered injury to her wrist. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics registered al Featherston in May were: Births 5 deaths 1. marriages 1. Rainfall. The rainfall registered in May was 5.45 inches. There were nine wet day:; th.-- maximum fall being 3.42 inches on May 3. In May. 1940, 7.71 ineh.es were recorded.
