ITALIAN MENACE

ELIMINATED IN EAST AFRICA SOUTH AFRICANS NOW TO MEET NAZIS. FIELD-MARSHAL SMUTS CALLS FOR MORE VOLUNTEERS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 3. “Another illustrious chapter added to South Africa’s history,” was the description given today by Field-Marshal Sir Jan Smuts, Prime Minister of South Africa, to the way in which the Italian menace in East Africa has been eliminated. South Africans were now going forward to meet the more formidable German forces in North Africa, he said, and heavier fighting was ■to be expected. He knew that the call would not be in vain for a constant inflow of volunteers to maintain the strength of the front-line forces.
