MARRIED MEN

—-4 ENROLMENT TAKING PLACE THIS MONTH NOT LIKELY TO BE CALLED UP IN 1941. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. "The enrolment of the married men will take place toward the middle of this month, but it is most unlikely that any married men will be called up for service before the end of this year,” said the Acting-Minister of National Service, Mr Wilson, when referring yesterday to the confusion in some quarters on the question of married men being called up in the near - future for military service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. "Men at present being called up for overseas service are confined to members of Class A of the First Division of the General Reserve., that is unmarried men between the of 21 to 40, both inclusive." said Mr Wilson. “Up to May 7, when the. last ballot was issued. 52,000 men. had been called up for service overseas with the , 2nd N.Z.E.F. There, are still approximately 21,000 men of. Class A who have not yet been called up for service. Before any married men are selected these men will bo called up.. The remaining men of the First Division will all be included in the next overseas ballot, which, it is anticipated will be gazetted iu about three months’ time. "When the proclamation directing the enrolment of the Second Division is issued all married men up to 46 years of -age will require to register irrespective of the number of their children. Their order of selection, however, for military service, will be in accordance with the number of children they have; that is to say, married men with no children, will be called first, then those with one child, then those with two children, and so on.’’ When asked if the ages of married men required for’ overseas service would be the same as for single men, Mr Wilson -stated that men for service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. would be restricted to those, who had attained the,«j age of 21 years but had not attained ; the age of 41 years. This would apply to both married and single men.
