City stores report that' an unusual demand for clothes and woollen goods continues. The Commonwealth Prices Branch is watching the prices charged for clothing and any attempt to make excessive profits, by taking advantage of the brisk public demand, may lead to action by the Commissioner. The Minister of Supply (Senator Mcßride) said steps would be taken to ensure continued supplies of essential goods.
In another, statement the Minister forecast that there would be a general impingement on Australian industry, probably in about six months time. He said the public must be prepared for inconvience, but not for hardship. The Government would see that Australia did not run short of essential supplies. Hardships would be experienced onlj' in luxury goods.
