THE EMPIRE’S LEADER

INDIAN FRONTIER SERVICE IN 1896. (Contributed) A phase in the many-sided life of the British Prime Minister, Mr Win-, ston Churchill, which links him with a New Zealand soldier, is his service vyith the Indian Army. Away back in 1896 he was a galloper for General Sir Bindon Blood, who led the British forces in the Chitral campaign. Mr Churchill's associate in this perilous work, doubly so because of the nature of the country in the North West provinces in Himalayan regions, was Captain (now Brigadier) A. E. Glasgow, a Nelson and Wellington College old boy. Brigadier Glasgow had some exciting experiences in Franco in the 1914-18 war and at one 'lime was attached to the then Prince of Wales when he went across and insisted on making his way to the front line trenches. Brigadier Glasgow retired from the army and is doing service at Chicestcr with the Home Guard.
