STATE THEATRE

"KITTY FOYLE." The brilliant drama, “Kitty Foyle.” starring Ginger Rogers, will be finally shown tonight. “GIRL FROM AVENUE A.” Combining drama with hilarious comedy, “Girl From Avenue A.” starring Jane Withers, will be shown tomorrow night at the State Theatre. It is Jane Withers most pretentious picture, giving her lots of room to display her varied talents and providing her strongest supporting cast to date. Kent Taylor, Katharine Aldredge, Elyse Knox, Laura Hope Crews and many others are featured. "Girl From Avenue A” depicts the adventures of Jane Withers as a hungry and homeless spitfire from New York’s Bowery. She is taken to the Park Avenue home of a society author, Kent Taylor, in order that he may study her characteristics and speech for a play he is writing. Suspicious at first of the suave and handsome man who has befriended her she stays on in the swanky surroundings and attempts to become a lady to please her new boy friend. In the suspensive climax Jane proves she is more than a match for the Park Avenue “debs.” Filled with tender, human touches and interspered with many moments of hilarity, “Girl From Avenue A” is far and away Jane Withers’s best picture. The associate feature is a bright and breezy comedy, “For Beauty’s Sake.” The principals are Marjorie Weaver, Ned Sparks and the brilliant Joan Davis.
