FEATHERSTON

COUNCIL ACTIVITIES PROGRESSIVE POLICY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The local borough council intends to carry out its progressive policy during its term, in keeping witli the requirements of the town. Visitors have repeatedly referred in eulogistic terms to the general lay-out of the town, its well kept roads, footpaths and private gardens; and in this connection much credit is due to our Mayoi; and Councillors who at all times have advocated making Featherston a town worth} of its long life and sound traditions. With the limited amount of money at its disposal—it being the policy of the council to keep a strict watch on the rates, while at the same time not allowing any cheese-paring methods of a destructive nature to enter into the administration of the borough—it is to the credit of the council that Featherston is kept up to a high municipal standard. Featherston residents are proud of its Mayor (Mr J. W. Card) and well they might be. for he has over a long period of years displayed administrative ability rarely seen in the carrying out of mayoral duties. In the entertaining sphere associated with his municipal duties the Mayor has always been most worthily assisted by the popular Mayoress (Miss Card). SWIMMING CLUB ' SUCCESSFUL DANCE. The Featherston Swimming Club held another of their popular dances on Saturday night in the Anzac Hall when their was a large attendance. Mr W. McNamara was M.C., and Mrs Moran supplied the music. The Monte Carlo dances were won by Miss B. Davis and partner, and Mr Dick Holland and Miss Jean Jensen. The ladies' committee provided the supper. FOOTBALL WELL COACHED TEAM. The splendid fight put up by the Featherston seniors against the Carterton seniors on Saturday emphasises the fact that the coach is doing excellent work in coaching the team. The Featherston players are keen, and give the required amount of attention to training. Carterton’s lucky win on Saturday suggests that Featherston will have a good opportunity to win when the teams next meet. The best traditions of football in Featherston are being worthily upheld by the present senior team, and the hope is cherished that Featherston will again before long produce three great All Blacks like Quentin Donald. Jim Donald and Bill Irvine. A Hockey Success. The Featherston junior ladies’ team scored a well-deserved win over Sincerity on Saturday by 6 goals to 2. The latter team put up a splendid fight but the keen Featherston players proved themselves superior to their opponents in most departments of the game. The team is to be congratulated on its success, following on its good win over Martinborough on the previous Saturday. The club has some very smart players in their ranks and should prove hard to beat in the competition. Ably coached and captained the team should lay the foundation stone for a senior team in the near future equal to these splendid combinations which Featherston possessed thirty or more years ago. < Presbyterian Church Services. The services in the Presbyterian Church yesterday were taken by the Rev. H. Blomfield, Grey town (morning) and by the Rev. R. S. Keenan (evening). tWtuL Personal Items. The Rev.
