“THE BLITZTOURISTS”

SECOND ECHELON PRODUCTION. MASTERTON CONTRIBUTORS. More than usual interest attaches to "The Blitztourists." which was produced by the Second Echelon of the New Zealand Forces while on route from Britain to the Middle East, as in it is included the work of Masterton members of the echelon. The striking cover design bears the signature of Temporary Company SergeantMajor J. K. Welch, a son of Mr and Mrs K. E. Welch, of Makora Road, Masierlon. An excellent pen and ink sketch of Ail Sainis' Church. Hollingbourne, Kent, also by the same artist, attracts the eye. T C.S.M. Welch has since been posted as missing. Another cx-Masterton resident whose name figures as a member of the magazine committee and who no doubt contributed substantially to the production. is Warrant Officer J. D. Baybutt. formerly advertising manager of the "Wairarapa Times-Age." The "advertisements" —"Join the Second Echelon and See the World," and others concerning "Peter Fraser s Tours ’ and the “R.A.P."—arc no doubt the work of Warrant Officer Baybutt. The articles cover many phases of war-time life in Britain and at sea. tragedy and humour finding equal prominence. Many bright sketches add greatly to the interest of the production.
