MAURICEVILLE WEST

DINNER PARTY PIG CLUB SUPERVISOR HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) Members of the Mauriceville Pig Club gathered at the residence of Mr H. C. Mortensen on Wednesday night in order to do honour to their late supervisor, Mr A. A. Johnson, who will shortly enter a military camp. The gathering took the form of a dinner party. Messrs N. Myers and H. C. Mortensen were the hosts and Mr G. Fredricksen occupied the chair. Mr, Myers in proposing the toast of Mr Johnsen referred to the startling personal qualities of their guest and wished him God speed and a safe and early return home. Mr Johnson feelngly replied. Mr Fredricksen in proposing the toast of the newly appointed supervise!’, Mr J . Marsden, wished him every success in his new sphere of activities. Mr Marsden suitably replied. Mr J. Williams proposed the toast cf the Fig Council, and referred to the good work which was being done by that body. Mr J. Hillas, of Palmerston North, a member of the council, suitably replied.

Mr W. H. Bird, in proposing the toast of the pig industry, said he hoped that the dark cloud that hung over the industry would soon lift, and that the industry would prosper in the future.

Mr Johnson thanked the hosts for the gathering provided in his honour and the ladies who had been associated with it. Mr H. C. Mortensen replied. Amiusing competitions were held and after supper had been served, the singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a happy gathering to a close. Personal items. Mrs C. Johansen has returned home after having been the guest of her daughter, Mrs C. Stack, Taumaranui. Mrs J. C. Mortensen has returned home after having spent a holiday with her daughter, Mrs A. D. Kerr, of Ran gik u ra, I’a ran ak 1.
