POWER BOARD

MEETING AT CARTERTON INCREASE IN REVENUE. CONSUMERS TOTAL 6,208. ! (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held at Carterton today. The chairman. Mr A. C. Pearce, presided. There were also present Messrs J. W. Colquhoun, F. C. Daniell. H. P. Hugo, W. Howard Booth, E. C. Holmes, M. B. Tait, W. H. Tate and G. Hart. Accounts for £20.645 4s 11 d were passed. The secretary-manager, Mr Geo. Brown, reported that revenue in April showed a satisfactory increase on that of last year. It was unlikely that the rate of increase would be maintained. The net revenue for the month was £5.416, or a gain of £4OO on that for April, 1940. There was an increase of 41,999 units sold. The number of consumers was now 6,208. During the month Mr C. C. Deller, of the Carterton office staff, entered camp to commence training as a pilot in the Air Force. He had been with the board for five years. The chairman paid a tribute to the services rendered to the board by Mr Simon Dalgleish during his term of office extending over the past nine years. “Although we did not always agree with him it resulted in a free discussion which was good for the board." said Mr Pearce. “Mr Dalgleish was never afraid to give his opinion.” It was decided to place on record appreciation of Mr Dalgleish’s services and to send him a letter of thanks. It was decided to grant married men employed by the board at the outbreak of war, leave of absence plus 10s per week and 5s per week for each child. In the case of single men a payment of 5s per week woulcfe.be made. All cases would be subject to review at short periods. Mi - Pearce .stated that members’ thoughts were with Mr and Mrs Holmes and Mr and Mrs Daniell, who had sons posted as missing on active service. It was to be hoped that better news would shortly be received.
