DEPUTATION TO MEET COUNCIL. TAKING OVER OF AREA URGED BY SPORTS BODIES. At a well attended meeting of sports bodies held in the W.F.C.A. boardroom last night it was decided to wait upon the Masterton Borough Council and urge the council to take over the Cameron and Soldiers’ Memorial Park from the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. Mr J. H. Cunningham, who presided, stated that the meeting had been convened as the result of a resolution passed at the annual meeting of the Trust Lands Trust. Messrs E. C. Coddington, F. C. Daniell and himself were appointed to approach sports bodies. Mi' Cunningham gave a summary of the history of the park and stressed the fact that several thousand pounds had been invested in it. All would agree that although the Trust had vast assets its income should, as was being done, be spent on education and not on the upkeep of the park. He considered it the function of the borough council, with the special equipment, labour and facilities it possessed, to take over the park. Many speakers agreed with Mr Cunningham and expressed surprise that the generous offer of £l5O a year for fifteen years, made by the Trust was refused by the council. It. Avas the unanimous opinion of those present that it Avas the duty of the borough council to administer the park. After some discussion it was decided to invite representatives of the sports bodies to form a deputation to wait on the council at its next meeting on June 17.
