CARTERTON
DANCE FOR SOLDIERS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor, Air D. L. Taverner, presided over a meeting of the Carterton Soldiers’ Committee held in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. There were also present: Messrs E. McKenzie, J. A. B. Lawrence, A. T. Murray, W. A. Hart, Mesdames Gayfer, Fairbrother and Miss V. Tucker. Apologies for absence were received from several members of the committee. Accounts amounting to £8 4s lOd were passed for payment. It was resolved to hold a dance in the King’s Theatre on Friday, June 6, the prices for which were fixed at men 2s 6d and ladies 2s. Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra was engaged to supply the music. A working bee to finalise arrangements foi- the dance and supper will be held on Friday afternoon, June 6.
GOLF CLUB SATURDAY’S GAMES. The following is the draw, for a medal and qualifying round for the Yule Cup:—From No. 1 tee: Brown and Lawrence; Nicholls and Hill; Booth and Dudson; J. Steel and Colson; Dwane and Barrett; Roydhouse and E. Pankhurst. From No. 3 tee: Hughes and W. Steel; Forbes and Harrington; Gustofson and Smart; Clarke and Fisher; Candy and Johansen. From No. 17 tee: Nix and Whitburn; Riggs and Goodin; Hart and Moroney; Taylor and Tankersley; Knutson and Larsen; M. Knowles and Meyrick; W. Knowles and Harry; G. Pankhurst ' and A. Broadbent; Beaven a bye. The following is the draw for the flag competition and medal round to be played by the lady members of the Carterton Golf Club on the Taratahi links on Saturday. All players must start from the one tee: —Seniors: Mrs Candy v. Miss Campbell; Mrs Callender v. Mrs Colson; Mrs Moroney v. Miss Berrill; Mrs Harrington v. Mrs Murray; Miss Smart v. Mrs Johansen; Miss B. Freer v. Mrs Orr; Mrs Forbes v. Mrs Robinson; Miss Armstrong v. Mrs Hasty; Miss Lamb v. Miss I. Corlett; Mrs Nix v. Miss Peters; Miss J. Orr v. Miss M. Lawrence; Miss V. Corlett v. Miss Z. Freer. Juniors: Miss Lindop v. Mrs Knowles; Miss Johnson v. Mrs Martin; Miss Hurley v. Miss P. Bredin. Mrs and Miss Orr will be in charge of the afternoon tea arrangements. Social Gatherings. A social gathering will be tendered to Privates V. Udy, T. Eackhouse, E. Oliver, G. Bassett and S. Ward on Saturday, May 31 in the Parkvale Hall. Music will be supplied by Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra. A social gathering is to be held in the Clareville Social Hall on Thursday, June 5. Election of Assessor. Nominations are called by the Wairarapa South County Council for the position of an assessor. Nominations will close on Friday, June 13, before noon. St. Mark's Ladies' Guild. St. Mark’s Ladies’ Guild will hold a sale of work in the bandroom on Friday. This annual event is always looked forward to by the parishioners and residents of Carterton generally. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be obtainable at the sale of work. Personal. Leading Aircraftman Geo. Sewell, son of Mr and Mrs B. Sewell, of Seddon Street, Carterton, who has been home on sick leave, his returned to the i Hobsonville base, Auckland.
