POSITION IN GERMANY GOOD THAT IN OCCUPIED COUNTRIES BAD. AMERICAN DEPARTMENTAL REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 26. ‘'Despite a definite shortage of some essential commodities, food supplies in Europe are sufl’icient to maintain current rationing.” states the Department of Agriculture, in a report. "Germany’s food problem does not resemble that of 1914/18 The presept war has not yet seriously interfered with her agricultural production and rations are practically unchanged, in Germany because of vast reserves accumulated before the war and the spoils of conquered countries. The situation in Italy is much less favourable, Army demands depleting civilian reserves. Moreover, large quantities of vital Italian foodstuffs have been exported to Germany. Conditions in France, Belgium, Norway and the Netherlands are unfavourable, all having’ suffered Gorman requisitioning.”
