AUSTRALIA & NETHERLANDS INDIES DECLARATION BY VISITING OFFICIAL. DETERMINATION TO FIGHT TO LAST MAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This'Day. 12.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. "There must be closer under- 1 standing between Australia and the Netherlands East Indies before hell is let loose in this part of the world. We have seen what happened in Europe because of lack of co-operation.”—This statement was made by "he Director of the East Indies Government Publicity Services, Mr J. H. Ritman, who recently accompanied Messrs Van Kieffens and Welter to Australia. He added: “Such an understanding would have a very great preventive effect. The East Indies Government will defend its country at all costs. We will fight to the last man. We will fight regardless of help from other Powers. We will destroy every inch of our oilfields, every factory and every store that could be of help to'an invader.”
