NAZI CLAIMS
THE FIGHTING IN CRETE ALLEGED REPULSE OF BRITISH TANKS. ITALIANS ADMIT NAVAL LOSSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 25. The German Radio stated that British tanks attempted to attack German land forces near a harbour is Crete, but that German planes destroyed some tanks by cannon-fire and set fire to others. A German communique says: “Further parachutists have been landed in Crete. The Luftwaffe extensively bombed British positions.’’ An Italian communique admits the loss of an Italian destroyer and also a torpedo-boat, during actions in the Eastern Mediterranean. The communique claims that severe losses forced the British fleet protecting Crete to retire to its bases and that an enemy submarine was sunk by torpedo-boats.
