AWARDED DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS. FLYING OFFICER ALAN GAWITH. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, May 25. The following members of the R.A.F. have been awarded the D.F.C.: — Flight Lieutenant William Samuel Rea (Paengaroa). Flying Officer Alan Antill Gawith, (Masterton). Flying Officer Gawith, who is 25 years of age, proceeded to England in May, 1938, to take up a short service commission in the R.A.F. He had since been engaged in night, flying operations. He was educated at the Palmerston North College Street School, Wellington Callege, Wairarapa High School, where he matriculated and Nelson College. At the time he joined up with the R.A.F. he was studying law at Victoria College. He is a son of Mr and Mrs A.. C. Gawith. of Longbush, Masterton.
