WOMEN’S DIVISION
PROVINCIAL COUNCIL MEETING IN MASTERTON. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The Wairarapa Provincial Council of the W.D.F.U. met in the Rest Room al Masterton on Wednesday, Mrs K. Groves presiding. Also present were Mesdames Couper, Renall, Allen, Ordish (Carterton), Wilson, E. H. Dagg (Mauriceville), James (Rangitumau), Smith, Stone-Wigg, Handcock (Ekeiahuna), Clark, Feast, Wakely (Featherston), Harris (Pahiatua), Beu (Greytown), Grant. Ross (Pahautea), McNaulty (Eketahuna), E. Rutherford (Masterton), Hay, Andrew (Tinui), Harman, Senr (Tiraumea), Misses Harvey (Rangitumau), Anderson (Eketahuna) and Eager (Greytown). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Wiggins, Ness, Barrer and Jackson. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr Polson, M.P., in the death of his wife. The council decided to place on record its deep appreciation of the work Mrs Polson had done for the Division as founder of the W.D.F.U. The balance-sheet was adopted. The council decided to forward the 50 pairs of blankets donated by the branches to the men of the Mercantile Marine (overseas). The housekeeper's secretary gave an excellent report on that section of activities. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mrs K. Groves (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Beu, Allen, Clark and James; recording secretary, Mrs J. Maitland (re-elected); housekeepers' secretary, Mrs J. Andrew (re-elected); committee, Mesdames K. Groves, D. James, Handcock, Pike, Hay, ‘ Miss Eager; advisory members, Mesdames Clark, Beu and Gibson; delegates to the Dominion Conference at Wellington, Mesdames Groves, Wiggins, Maitland and Miss Anderson (substitute, Mrs Clark); auditor, Mr H. Mortensen. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr L. H. Smart. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the housekeepers, Mesdames McNay, Grant and Miss Gibb. A vote of sympathy with those members who had lost relatives in the war was carried. Mrs Groves was accorded a vote of thanks for the manner in which she had conducted the proceedings of the council. Mrs Groves returned thanks for the confidence placed in her.
