Among the people filing into a London shelter for the night was an old man. In one hand he carried a longhandled shovel to deal with incendiaries. Under the other arm he carried an old-fashioned harp—to twang, presumably. for a little entertainment. “Blimey," said one Cockney to her lady friend, “there’s a bloke wots backed hisself both ways."
