BOARD OP DIRECTORS MEET
ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR.
COMMITTEES APPOINTED
At the Board of Directors meeting held this week a considerable amount of routine business was attended to. There was a good attendance of the directorate under the chairmanship of the president. Mr E. M. Hodder. The general secretary's monthly report dealt comprehensively with the activities of the association including the services rendered 'to the troops during the recent manoeuvres and attention given to injured territorials at the hospital. The thanks of the Board were recorded for the assistance so readily given by those attending the various can-' teens, and to all others concerned for the wholehearted interest taken in making the venture such a success. A letter of appreciation forwarded by Captain Beveridge, officer in charge of the Field Forces was read. Committees were set up to further the interest of the Association for the ensuing year and include House, Religious, and Finance committees. It was with sincere regret that the Board accepted the resignation of Mr Jas. Handyside on the eve of his departure from the town. In the capacity of president for a number of years and as a member of the Board extending over a period of 30 years, Mr Handy.side will be much missed. It was reported that the 1941 season for physical culture classes had opened with good entries in most classes. An endeavour is now being made to establish a class for businessmen whereby physical training of a recreational nature, would be given under the supervision of an expert officer, who will conduct the class from 5.15 o'clock to G. 15 o’clock on Tuesday evenings each week, and lor which the general secretary invites application. The buildings are being more freely used by the youth of the town, it was stated’, and the management welcomed the co-operation of parents in encouraging the boys to link up with the Association.
On Thursday evening last, a successful card party was held by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, whose work in fitting up the spacious front room was noticeable by the improvement accomplished during the past few days. A thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. The winners in the bridge section were Mrs McMasters and Mr G. Brown, while in 500 Mrs Henderson and Mr J. Evans were successful. To add to the comfort of those present there was a glowing log fire and a homemade supper was dispensed by the ladies’ committee, Mesdames Prescott; Pickering, Williams, and Nelson, under the guidance of the president. Mrs H. E. Either,
