HASTWELLS

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Hast wells Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, when Mrs K. Ngatuere presided over a good attendance of members. Miss A. Dick gave an interesting report on the Bush Federation meeting, held in Pahiatua. for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The monthly competitions resulted as follows:—Seniors: Pikelets, Miss K. Larsen 1. Mrs Madsen 2, Mrs Elliott 3. Juniors: Kisses, Miss E. Larsen 1. Miss E. Dick 2, Miss O. Halberg 3. Best chrysanthemum: Mrs Elliott 1, Miss H. Madsen 2, Mrs Madsen 3. A game which was arranged by Mrs Casiey, was won by Mrs Madsen and I Miss O. Halberg, who were equal. Mrs Dick. Mrs C. Seymour and Miss O. Halberg were thanked for carrying out of the work of judging. Arrangements were made for sending soldiers’ parcels away at the end of the month. The motto for the month was: “Nearly everyone is fighting a hard battle, be kind." The roll call was: “A humorous incident in your school days," which was enjoyed. A parcel of clothing was sent to the Red Cross Society. Mrs Madsen and Miss I. Madsen served afternoon tea, after which the singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close.
