NAVAL ACHIEVEMENTS
ENEMY VESSELS ON WAY TO LIBYA SUNK Including 9000-too Troopship and Tanker FURTHER HEAVY CAPTURES IN ABYSSINIA IRAQ REGENT CONSIDERING FORMATION OF NEW GOVERNMENT LONDON, May 23. The Admiralty reports further successes by British submarines operating against the sea communications to Libya. A troopship of about 9,0G0 tons and a tanker of 7,000 tons have been sunk and an Italian destroyer hit by a torpedo and probably sunk. In addition a large schooner of a type used for the carrying of munitions was destroyed and a somewhat smaller schooner was shelled while at anchor and hit several times. British patrols are again active in the Tobruk and Solium areas. The Battle of the Lakes in Abyssinia is developing satisfactorily. A further 800 prisoners were captured by the British forces, when they repulsed an Italian counter-attack, after heavy fighting. The day before they took 4,500 prisoners, 33 guns and 14 tanks. British troops in Iraq dispersed a rebel counter-attack at Falluja, capturing 20 officers and 90 men. The rebels had obtained a footing on the outskirts of Falluja with light tanks and infantry but after a heavy air attack were driven out and some tanks fell into British hands. German aircraft caused slight damage in an attack on T'abbania aerodrome. The situation at Basra is quiet. The Regent of Iraq, the Emir Abdul Illah, has returned to that country and is considering the formation of a new government. His headquarters are being kept secret. As soon as the situation is cleared up he will make an announcement about a, new government.
